[equipment] Premier Hardware Relegated to First Division

I think I've mentioned the effort to streamline the gigging kit, but it's hit a bit of a snag.

I've got two Premier drumkits. A four- to six-piece Signia that I bought new in 1997, and a four- to five-piece Genista I got used from Filter drummer Steve Gillis once his basement started overflowing with gear from his Pearl endorsement. It's probably also late nineties, I'm not sure.

Anyway, I've been playing a lot of smaller stages lately, so I figured I would finally relent and mount my toms off the bass drum. Premier's unfortunately spelled RokLok mount can handle two drums and a cymbal, and I was even going to try to saddle another splash on top of that. This would minimize the footprint of the kit greatly, as there would be no floor stands out beyond the snare drum and hi-hat, and I've already got two cymbals on one stand off to my right.

Unfortunately, it seems that at some indeterminate point in the past, Premier decided to overhaul their hardware, and changed the RokLok from a 1-1/4" diameter post to a 1" post. So I get the piece, and it doesn't fucking fit. This probably happened when they discontinued both lines in favor of the Artist Maple and Birch series, but don't they figure that somebody, somewhere, might have a Premier kit bought before Y2K?

When you throw in the fact that there are already some annoying inconsistencies with pipe diameters on Premier hardware -- my tom arms don't fully tighten in the tom stand as it is -- I'm probably going to forgo the brand completely going forward. In terms of hardware, anyway. Gibraltar makes tom arms that'll fit, and Pearl's three-hole brackets will also do the trick.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone makes a 1-1/4" pipe, so I'll be forced to mount both toms in the five-piece configuration on a single stand to the left of the kick drum. Which is actually what I've done with the practice kit, and I kinda like it, so it's not a big deal. Except for the footprint thing, which I'll just have to live with.

Hi There
This is Premier Percussion UK.
Please be assured we DO still make the 1.1/4"
tom holder, the reference is 4396. This will
fit the Signia, Genista, Gen-X, Marquis, and
early Artists and Cabrias.Floor tom stands with
this holder are also still available.
We always strive to ensure, when we update
product, that parts and accessories are still
accessible for previous kits.
Hope this clarifies.....
with best regards

I have a premier genista kit with double bass and dangit the spurs broke, so now i have been searching the web for genista hardware. I think Permier has discontinued making genista hardware. So I am screwed when it comes to buying anything new. Nothing seems to come up with used either, can anyone help? Thanks

I also have a Premier Signia kit. The drums are great, possibly the best. However, the hardware quality is very disapointing. The hi hat stand has not worked properly since I bought it and about half of the wingnuts on the tom holders are stripped.
I want to go to DW hardware, but do not know if it fits.

WOW you know Steve Gillis personally thats amazing I've always wanted to meet him. Your really lucky.

i have an early model of the gen-x. i bought it used from a drum shop in 2003, and I'm guessing it was manufactured in the late 90s. I'm having a hard time determining its resale value. the premier series gen-x retails for a pretty penny, but this kit isn't a premier series. can anyone direct me to where I can find more information on this kit?

thanks.

If anyone still reads this info I would like to just clear up one thing. The down tube for Signia, Genista etc is 1-1/8" NOT 1-1/4". These have since been replaced with standard 1" tubes, however, if anyone is looking for the older models I can certainly assist with that, even the extremely RARE 2290 Fastball Single Tom mount for the Bass drum.
Cheers to all.

And Dancincrow knows of what he speaks. People do still read this info -- this entry seems to always make the top 10 pages in terms of average daily traffic.

I bought a new Premier double tom mount for my Signia kit...only to find I had bought the one inch newer version. I liked the new rounder design(even though it's heavier), so I took the mount to a local auto exhaust specialist...they welded a one and one eighth inch stainless steel tube straight onto the butt of the cut off one inch, at the length I gave them. Wasn't expensive to do the mod.

I would like to find a 18x22 premier signia maple bass drum, honey amber. I have a great signia kit but it has a 16 inch deep bass, good sound but it lacks the punch that I'm lookin for.
