[drumming diary] If it's Wednesday, it must be blues/funk/rock

It would be wrong for me to complain about too many gigs, but it's an experience I don't think I've ever had before. At least the way it's panning out right now. This week I had a rehearsal with Jeff on Sunday, with Marigold Engine on Monday and with Abi last night. And the heat and humidity down in the basement of Major Hall was brutal, causing me to get a little testy when the band was, um, "deliberating" some transitions. Got the job done, though, and ultimately, I think the decisiveness was appreciated.

Tonight is the gig with Goldford, then Friday is Marigold Engine. The obvious upshot of this is that my playing feels a little better due to hitting it almost every day for a couple of weeks. On the other hand, I don't know when I'm going to get to do my laundry, but again, good problem to have.

The big picture for the month is something like eight gigs with six bands, and I'm going from Britpop (Diver) to bluesy funk-folk rock (Goldford) to Puerto Rican hip-hop (Abi) to straight-up rock (Marigold Engine). So I don't need to try to overplay any one of them, as I can typically scratch any particular stylistic itch on another night, on another gig.

Like I said elsewhere on the site, I'll sleep when I'm dead.
