[drumming diary] Bloomin' Blokes!

Friday night at the Bayou was a bit of a trip. Anto's mates (that's "friends" to you and me) were all across the street getting warmed up, for reasons I don't quite understand. It's not like they don't have drinks on our side of the street. They took there sweet time arriving, that's for sure, and our intrepid singer was getting a little annoyed, looking over his shoulder and out the window with contempt. When the situation was explained to Avi, he commented -- on-mike, I think -- with "what a bunch of...blokes. A bunch of bloomin' blokes!"

We all pretty much lost it at that point. I'm not sure if it was funny, absurd, or some perfect balance of the two. But that definitely set the tone for the rest of the set.

"Talk Tonight" was attempted, with a couple of rough patches, but it'll end up alright. I'm not worried. Crowd was a little too sedate to try out "Let Me Entertain You." And speaking of Avi, now he's got me screwing up the name of "Live Forever." I actually searched my MP3 files for "Live Together" a couple of weeks ago. Damn you, Avi!

Later on, Anto totally cut one of Tony's guitar solos short, and Tony responded by making like he was squashing a bug, that he was getting stepped on. Once again, I almost fell off my drum stool laughing, and Anto was cracking up enough that I think he missed half a verse of whatever song we were in. One thing is for sure, this is the loosest bunch of guys I've played with, and probably the only band I've been in where I'll comment to Tony that the Bulls game looks like it's gone to double overtime. In the middle of a song.

Had to cut down to a four-piece for this one, and might be able to shrink the footprint of the kit further if I have to do it again. I also may need to look into a more cushioned throne, as relying purely on a more cushioned ass doesn't seem to be cutting it. Although I went for the mixed drinks instead of beer to remove some of that cushioning.
