Inevitable

I guess it was just a matter of time before I started talking about women in this space, although I was thinking of teasing my Mom by telling her about this site with the caveat that she won't learn anything about my dating life here, either.

But this isn't actually about dating, per se. One thing I've noticed in the last couple of days is that I finally seem to be taking some initiative in meeting new people, and by people, I mean women. Not much that looks like it will lead to anything, mind you, but positive steps nonetheless. There was a friend of a friend on Friday night at Elbo Room that I'm in the process of inquiring about, although I didn't talk to her much that night. I'm not terribly conversational at rock shows, which is unfortunate, because I like seeing shows so much that I'd like to share them with a potential date, even though it would likely turn into a communication disaster. But I digress. Then, there was a young lady watching the Michigan football game at Ginger's while I was taking in the MLS semifinal, and I actually initiated some conversation there. No exchange of phone numbers or anything, but I know where to find her. And last night at Vaughan's, we had a new bartender, who, granted, was very outgoing, but I played my part to keep the conversation alive. Like I said, nothing earth-shattering, but postive steps nonetheless.

Speaking of last night at Vaughan's, it was quite possibly the worst turnout ever. We sure could have used a Rally Monkey (see the last entry for more on that subject). I'm tempted to take it upon myself to generate some interest, but there's no upside for me, as I'm still not getting paid. At least directly. It was also very dark, which made my inaugural performance of Elvis Costello's "Watching the Detectives" somewhat problematic. It wasn't a complete train wreck, though. I also added Chris Whitley's "Automatic," which is a good fit, and reprised Peter Gabriel's "Not One Of Us" from a couple weeks ago. I like playing that a lot, but I might have to fiddle with the key, as I feel like I'm singing it too low.

And I'm once again feeling my age today, as I played indoor soccer last night. I only had that one outdoor game in the last five weeks or so, which is something that various body parts are reminding me of right now. I've reached the conclusion that you can never stretch your groin too much before intense physical activity. Ouch.

"I've reached the conclusion that you can never stretch your groin too much before intense physical activity."

*blink*

now THAT is sig file-able. sigable? sig worthy? well, something along those lines. anyway, i hope your groin problem clears up soon. you know, if you don't use it, you lose it.

hey! i wonder if they have rally monkeys for groins? you might want to check into that. ;-p

Hey! I didn't even know you knew this was here. The Rally Monkey be with you.

I was going to make a mildly crass comment about groins and a certain someone I've lost touch with, but I'll be good. If that's (surprisingly) enough information, and know of a certain someone's whereabouts, let me know.

*bow* thanks! may the Rally Monkey shine upon your groin.

*cough* or whatever. anyway....

wish i could help about the in touch-ing things, but i don't know where that Certain Someone went off to. (hell, i don't even know where *i* am half the time! ;-)) but it would be great to say 'hey!' sometime. if you hear from them, tell them 'hi' and things and pass along my email addy. ya just never know. ;-)
