the best defense...

I'm not going to bother with last night's State of the Union address, partially because I didn't watch it, and because Phineas did a much better job than I would ever do. Incidentally, my English-major roommate also took exception to the non-word "Hitlerism."

Elsewhere, I'd like to stress that, when an opposing player is coming at you with the ball, and passes it to another player, there's only one thing worse than following the ball and leaving that first player unmarked, and that's just sort of standing between the two opposing players in such a position that you're neither marking anyone nor stepping into a lane to prevent a pass. It would have been better had I stressed that last night, in the midst of a 14-8 drubbing in my Tuesday league, but I didn't. I did get three very awkward assists that may or may not have truly counted as assists, given that the ball hit anything and everything before going in, except another player on my team.

The Lindsie recording keeps on humming along. Overdubbed some percussion last night, including a cool little thing where I threw a splash cymbal on my floor tom and played it with brushes. I picked that up from bassist Pat Williams a couple of years ago when we were making the demo for The Neighborhood. What's interesting is that Lindsie hasn't ever really done this before. Her previous studio experience involved just coming in, singing, leaving, and having someone hand her the finished product eventually. Last night she tracked guitar parts for the first time ever. She nailed one of the songs in one take. This is why we're all excited about this project in general.
