All day yesterday, I was insisting that this scratchiness in my throat didn't feel at all like a cold. So far today, I was completely wrong in that assessment. That said, it's just a scratchy throat and a headache, with a little bit of coughing. Still doesn't feel like a flu bug or anything. We'll see.
Monday was the first day of my voiceover class. For those of you keeping score at home, the current backup plan to full-time employment is to split time between music, radio commentary for the Chicago Fire, and voiceover work. If I have all these pieces in places by April or May, I will have absolutely no adverse money effects of nearly a year without a job. Heck, if I have most of the pieces in place (voiceovers are competitive, so I don't expect to find work right away), I'll still be in pretty good shape.
But I wanted to mention the class. It's at a facility that mostly offers classes for actors, and after the "orientation lecture" last week, I was a little worried that I would be way the heck outside of my element, in that I'm in no way an actor. Fortunately, the class is made up mostly of people like myself, who have been told they have a good voice as long as they can remember. Plus, we have one guy who's a DJ at a strip club and one woman who works as a phone sex operator, both looking to branch out. So you can imagine what all the conversations were about when we had some downtime.
In other news, Nitrous Foxide lives on, for the time being. The drama of last week hopefully succeeded in righting the ship, or at least in establishing a more tangible direction than we had before. We were drifting a bit, and the inactivity, couple with some outside variables, made the situation a bit volatile.
