Net working

I'm trying to cut down both on alcohol intake and spending, so I've taken another stab at just not buying drinks when I'm out, which has been an awful lot lately, in my efforts to be a responsible documenter of local music. However, I still managed to consume quite a bit last night at Gunther Murphy's, at the urging (and on the dime, so thanks, Josh) of a recording engineer friend of mine, who knows of my respect for a well-poured pint of Guinness, and that Gunther's is one of the best in the city in that regard.

So, it's entirely possible I was a blithering idiot in conversation at the venue, but I hope not, because there were valuable connections to be made. There are some possibilities for studio work on drums and live work on percussion that would help fill out the dance card, which could stand to be filled out. I took a stab at some new venues for the solo acoustic gigs yesterday, but several bars seem to be downshifting on that for the summer. I need to branch out a bit starting next week, and look for opening slots at some of the bigger places.

Also, I shaved my head. Not entirely, but most of the way. I've been wanting to try this for a while now, just to see what it would look like. And, because it might actually make my head look smaller, which is no easy task. Unfortunately, it has accentuated the fact that my head is by no means round, and there are these weird little grooves in my skull on either side that result in a little less hair where they protrude out. So I either look like I've got corn rows, or I'm a walking advertisement for Adidas, with the requisite three stripes. We'll see how it looks when it starts to grow in and go from there. Since I'm taller than most, I could probably get away with leaving it like this. I swear, though, I'm a phrenologist's wet dream.

I'm still working on getting a digital camera for you. *snorfle*
How come Rachel hasn't seen the new 'do yet?

Regarding the drinking:

.....it's all Don's & my fault! I admit it!

It probably all started that night at his house in 1985- the first time, *ever*, that we all got together to bang out the Rush songs....

His sister's boyfriend got everyone a case of beer (there were also a handful of people watching us) and if I counted correctly, you downed 4 beers total - all within the first hour of us playing (as you were a 10th grader, Don & I were surprised - hehehehheh).

Never having played together, we set everything up, then Don looked at us & said "Whatd'ya wanna start with?" I said "How'bout 'The Trees'?"

As you sat behind your drums, the look on your face at that moment was "a Kodak moment", I tell ya. (you seemed to have a look of disbelief that "other kids" actually played *these* songs and that we were about to ROCK OUT! - It was awesome, I remember!)

I don't think I EVER drank four beers in one night while I was in high school, honest. I didn't even like beer all that much until about halfway through college.

And Rachel has seen the new 'do.

...wait a minute, Chris....

CORRECTION to my last message-

That night was in the Springtime, so you were a *9th*-grader! Even more surprising - hehehehe

At this point, I think I'm glad my mom doesn't visit this site every often. You're sure it wasn't Bob Crosbee? I thought the first time I played with you guys was at Earthquake?

LOL! You know, if was wondering if, perhaps, you were denying it because your parents might visit this site from time to time!!

To answer your question - no, if it was Bob Crosbee, he would've kept drinking until he fell off of his drum throne in a near-coma, then we would've had to call an ambulance to take him away on a stretcher!

*That really happened someplace else!* hahahha I'm not kidding...did you ever hear that story?

Leading up to the jam session at Don's house that night, I had called you up out-of-the-blue a week earlier (you had no idea who I was, and I think you thought someone was playing a joke on you, because you hardly said anything on the phone! heheh); Fran kept saying, "Give my brother a call..he plays all that Rush stuff!" - so I called... then about a week later, I picked you up at your house and we did our best to jam all of your drums into my car (I think we had to make 2 trips...)

We set up in Don's living room (the acoustics were great - and NO feedback w/ all the carpeting & other material in there). A handful of people came over, and sat on the sofa. I wish we recorded that...

Playing at Earthquake was later that year (like, Sept./Oct.) prior to our 1st Battle!

(and we DID record that)
