NP: Radiohead, Kid A (CD)
It seems most people use their weekends to recuperate from the grind of the week, to rest, relax, and balance out the typical workaday life. Somehow, I seem to have gotten it backwards. With a gig Friday night, two soccer games played Saturday morning, one watched Saturday night, and another one played on Sunday, it's going to take me all day today to get myself back among the living-and-walking-normally. And there could have been more.
I don't mind this, of course, but it occasionally strikes me as weird that I more or less have to wait until everyone else gets off work to do things. I've got this big gap everyday between when I get up and when I really get active in a more communal sense. Yes, things have continued to be slow on most aspects of the "keeping oneself busy and financially solvent" front, and the hints of panic are setting in again. I have a bad feeling that I'm going to be forced to cash out what little "discretionary" (i.e., non-retirement) investments I've made in the last year, which is unfortunate, because they're proving me right. And you know how much I love being right.
Speaking of going in reverse, the Bush administration seems to be in full backpedal mode (registration required). Going back only as far as last week, the Uranium-from-Nigeria information was erroneous, then the CIA's fault, now "technically accurate." I'm starting to get the feeling that this story is finally getting the traction it deserves. The Bushies did a piss-poor job of making a case to invade Iraq, regardless of whether or not it actually was a good (or, rather, inevitable) idea, and it's encouraging to see that they might finally be taken to task for it.
