NP: Modern Rock 1980-81 (CD)
So, apparently John Poindexter is out on his ass after all the flap over the "terrorism futures market" that made news this week. So, proposing a system that, by it's own nature, fishes through personal data to see if you're a terrorist doesn't cause any problems, but pseudo-gambling on possible bad things gets you fired. Weird.
Personally, I had my own issues about the viability of the market model, but the "grotesque" claim made by an Oregon senator wasn't one of them. Any system like that is subject to gaming, and the dot-com stock roller-coaster alone should be enough of a red flag to scuttle the idea. Also, the system admittedly only included threats that were known, which is kind of a big hole.
Poindexter is out, but apparently Alias star Jennifer Garner is safe for the long haul. Apparently she just signed through the 2008 season or something. I guess that's about right for a drama, as that will get the show through seven seasons and the magic syndication number.
On the personal employment front, next week could firm up some key projects and pipelines on the data consulting side, which subsequently could turn lots of things around. As with most of these things, I don't want to jinx them by giving them names.
Report on last night's Lindsie Reitz gig here.
