NP: Radiohead, Hail to the Thief (CD)
Had one of those minor epiphanies on Saturday morning, and that is that you probably shouldn't take long looks in the mirror to assess how you feel about your life when you're hung over.
It's been an interesting couple of days, Friday night's bender being a part of it. I spent parts of Thursday and Friday getting an up-close view of how the really big parts of the music business work. After having an A&R guy visit for some local bands (including Lindsie's show, but that was more a happy byproduct), it was really interesting seeing that same sort of thing play out on a grander scale. That's all I'm really at liberty to say in public about it, at least for now.
Friday night was one of those private party deals, with an open bar for two hours after paying a cover. Being unemployed, I wanted to maximize value, and having a friend goading me into keeping up with him didn't help. Saturday morning, I swore off drinking and pledged myself to eat better. Both of those lasted until about 8:30pm, but when you fully understand the circumstances of my Saturday, you'll understand.
Then there was yesterday's soccer game. I'm not sure how this happened, but every single time I looked over to the sideline for a substitution, all three subs had just entered the game. So I played a full 80 minutes. On the one hand, I actually lasted the duration, but on the other, wow, I'm still not fully in shape. Most of the little nagging leg injuries didn't flare up, but my hip is a little tender.
On other topics, I'm thinking about a "job lead leaderboard," where I rank which crazy idea for generating income seems closest to paying off. For the last week and a half, it's been freelance market research. This week, it's a non-playing side of the music business.
