NP: National Health, Complete (MP3)
As an adult, you don't really have many opportunities to win anything. Sure, you can beat a buddy playing pool, get the promotion, and whatnot, but that doesn't really have the same kind of visceral kick of really winning, particularly in a team environment.
Last night, my Tuesday soccer team won our league with our fourth victory in two weeks, effectively running the table through the playoffs. It wasn't pretty, especially when you consider the sheer randomness of the refereeing, but we did it. I have to say, it was awfully satisfying. It could have been a bit easier, as we were up 1-0 in the championship game with about four minutes to go when the other team equalized. That was a little frustrating, as I wasn't in the game at the time, and the way the play unfolded, it was one where I likely would have been able to stop it were I on the field, but then we snuck one through in the overtime period for the win, so I won't quibble.
I'm not going to quibble in that BigSoccer.com argument I mentioned last time, either. I'm too old for that shit.
All in all, yesterday was a darn good day. Not only was there the soccer victory, but the afternoon marked the beginning of the Zappa cover band I'm putting together. Still a ways to go before we're ready for public consumption, but I'm really excited. More details in time.
And I'm happy to say I seem to have been wrong about this site hurting my full-time employment chances, at least with this one particular firm where I thought that to be the case. Given some of the other turmoil brewing right now, a day job might be just what the doctor ordered. Especially since my car apparently needs close to two grand in upkeep. I sorta knew I had been putting lots and lots of little repairs off over time, and now that has officially come back to bite me in the ass. To balance that, though, I bought a lottery ticket, so we'll see.
Downshifting from the two weeks of 9 to 5 work is proving to be a bit of an adjustment. I have some projects that the discipline of that contract work would greatly benefit, but I'm still in a bit of a recovery stage. So I'm procrastinating a lot.
Bunches of good new-ish stuff on EMusic, including an Andy Summers record. Very nice, and will not result in me being sued by the RIAA. I may or may not say something about that over on the music page.
