I'm tweaked

NP: David Bowie, Reality (CD)

Quite the whirlwind couple of days, and no, that's not a hurricane pun. Nothing terribly concrete, but lots of things in play. About a week ago, I had what I felt was an important moment, but then that got trumped over the weekend. Hard. Except both of those moments, as real and as potentially lasting as they seemed at the time, are transient, like the fade of a flavor in your mouth.

Uh oh, waxing poetic. It's worse than we thought.

Last week's interview went thoroughly okay, I've now been told. I didn't say anything to take me out of contention, but nor did I scream out "hire me!," so it's largely back to the drawing board. And most likely to eBay to make at least some money back on two of the four Bowie tickets I got over the weekend. One of these days I'll learn not to buy so many tickets for what I consider to be huge, huge shows without lining any ducks up in a row.

So after that, I quietly swore to rein in my credit cards, limiting expenses to food, utilities and gas. Speaking of gas, we won the damn war, so why is unleaded regular over $2 a gallon? Anyway, said swearing may need to be a bit louder, because while I had to pick up a CD yesterday to learn tunes for a project, I couldn't not grab the new Bowie and the new Perfect Circle discs while I was there.

Meanwhile, my knees have been reminding me through most of the day yesterday that maybe I'm not a midfielder. But it was fun, and it's not like I'm crippled or anything. Yet.

Two trends worth watching. First, I continue to be right on Wesley Clark, although at this point, his surge in the polls could have more to do with dissatisfaction with other campaigns. This does, however, buy him some time to get his act together. Second, the Cubs are very much still in it. With a week to go, Houston facing a tough San Francisco team, and the Phillies and Marlins maybe beating themselves up in the wild card. Two of the good starters struggled mightily over the weekend, though. It's normal when that happens to Shawn Estes or Juan Cruz, but Zambrano? Clement? We'll see where we are by Sunday.

Postscript: You may have noticed a few changes to the site, including a placeholder of a photos section, and introductory pages for l.i.t.c. and the soccer column. Or you may not have, but that's okay, too.
