Return to Sender

NP: Incubus, Make Yourself (CD)

Okay, I can say, with a reasonable degree of certainty, that local brewer Goose Island's Oktoberfest has more than your average alcohol content. I'm slowly rejoining the land of the living, thanks to some more innocuous liquids. One highlight of the evening, aside from my increasing inebriation level, was this guy Tim who did a Michael Hedges-esque acoustic guitar thing at Vaughan's. And I may be back there tonight as the bar celebrates 7 years of business. Hair of the dog, and all that.

I was supposed to have a job interview this morning, but that got canned amidst a hiring freeze at the company in question. So it's back to pounding some pavement today or tomorrow for some more leads.

Meanwhile, somebody seems to have decided to put my domain name in the "from" field in a whole honking bunch of spam e-mails. At first I thought it was just a bunch of fake mailer-daemon errors as a spam delivery method, but upon further investigation, the bounces look legit. Which unfortunately means my whole domain might get blacklisted in some quarters, and I don't know what I can do to stop it, as they don't seem to be using my mail server to send the bogus messages. I can't find any news of a worm or other pernicious piece of programming that might be at the root of the problem.

A friend hipped me to the video clip of Wesley Clark getting pissed off at the Fox News guy, and while it was nice to see somebody fight back against Fox's agenda-laden coverage, I'm not sure it was the "defining moment" that some Clark supporters want to make it. For all my bluster before he entered the race, I've been less and less interested now that he's in the mix. We'll see how that goes, I guess. Staying with politics for a moment, David Brooks had a great op-ed piece in the New York Times (registration required) on Saturday about how ridiculous the partisanship of government has gotten. Unfortunately, I'm too cynical to see anyone in a position of power buying into his position.
