NP: Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger (CD)
My car was broken into last night. Same window as a couple of years ago, right around the corner from my apartment, different from a couple of years ago. I blame Keanu Reeves, as I finally got around to seeing The Matrix: Revolutions, otherwise I would have been parked somewhere else entirely. Or I could blame people who weren't able to go see it with me earlier, which would have had the same effect, but that's stretching it. I think all the negative press lowered my expectations sufficiently to really enjoy the flick. It made more sense as a computing platform than as a philosophical platform, but I could live with that.
But it still meant my car was parked in the wrong place at the wrong time once I got back. They tried to get the stereo, and failed. Tore off part of the central column that houses it, though. Didn't take the CDs that were sitting on the passenger seat, which is confusing. Same could be said for all the various bits of drum stuff in the back, but that may have been a weird bit of serendipity. Remember the wiring harness I needed, a few entries back? Well, the whole point of that is that the hatchback doesn't respond to either the keyless entry or the automatic locks. So there was no way to open the hatch once the perpetrator got inside the car, and there's just no way to get the bass drum out the side door. Fortunately, that led to them leaving the cymbal bag as well. I wouldn't have expected them to take the hardware bags.
So it looked like they didn't get anything for all their effort, until I realized they got my "open mike bag," which had a couple of microphones, cables, a guitar tuner, and my big book of cover song lyrics. So if you come across anyone playing "Mexican Radio" and "Video Killed the Radio Star" that isn't me, contact your local authorities.
Big, big thanks to Steve for directing me to Orlando's Glass and Trim on Ashland. My insurance company could make an appointment for me on Tuesday. The dealer could order the window on Monday, and maybe have it on Wednesday. Even the garage where I had that last bit of work done couldn't get to it until tomorrow morning, when I'd already be on a plane to Los Angeles. But it's done now, with only one afternoon "lost," not that I really had much else to do with it.
Except maybe track down a UPS package in Kentucky, but that's a whole 'nother story.
