NP: Mexico v. Ireland Under-20s (TV)
So, I found the two- and three-year old receipts for most of the stuff that was stolen from my car. I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised, and the more ephemeral-minded of my friends shouldn't be subsequently appalled, that I both have the records and know exactly how to find them. Every once in a while, my penchant for saving nearly everything comes through, although I would imagine the insurance claim would probably work itself out even if that weren't the case. My comprehensiveness was of some note to the police officer over at the 19th District who supplemented my original report. Faced with a list of about a dozen or more items, he asked "you only just noticed that all this stuff was stolen?" Hey, it all fit in the backpack.
Later on, I made some headway on getting rid of the random piles of papers and other detritus that have been slowly taking over my office. In the process, I found some notes I had taken during a job interview where my interviewer had mentioned other research firms that I intended to look up later to see if they were hiring. As it turns out, neither of them have offices in Chicago, but it started a train of thought that led me to other research companies I've crossed paths with in the past. One of them is in Chicago, and is looking for a project manager. If that ends up coming through, it would be an odd sort of validation that my "system" works.
Or that serendipity can be your friend. On that note, I wound up at one of my favorite Irish bars last night, and with some time to kill, discovered a free local sports paper. I'll be contacting them about soccer coverage shortly. Meanwhile, a new pipeline of contract work has shown itself, but I don't have a good idea yet how substantial it may or may not be. Combine that with at least two new cover bands in the hopper, and I might not even need the other, full-time gigs that have also revealed themselves in the past week. Figuring my shit out would make for the happy holiday season.
