Postcard from Interstate 80

NP: John Cage, 4'33" (dance mix)

A couple of notes from the trip to New Jersey:

  • Ohio doesn't think much of Pennsylvania or NJ. Toward the end of the state's stretch of I-80, after it's branched off from the Ohio Turnpike proper toward Youngstown, there's a big sign decreeing that New York City is 400 miles away. That seems to assume that, if you're going that way, it can't possibly be to stop in one of the other two states on the way.
  • Coming over the Delaware Water Gap, there's a toll to leave Jersey, but not to get in. There are maybe too many jokes here to even fathom.
  • Twelve hours, ten minutes, new personal best. 80 isn't just the name of the highway, put it that way. I was struck by the abject lack of police presence, especially in Ohio. Maybe these state budget problems are worse than we thought.
  • No news on New Year's Eve yet. I should know by Wednesday at the latest.
