NP: Built To Spill, Ultimate Alternative Wavers (MP3)
I was starting to get a bit grumpy about another poorly-planned, socially dormant Saturday, but then I realized that I may be doing this on purpose. See, going out involves money, and usually drinking, both of which continue to be somewhat sore spots until I "right the ship," so to speak. Not dangerously so, but it doesn't hurt to be careful every once in a while. It only becomes an issue when being at home creates other problems, but I can't get overly worked up over that. So I helped justify my cable bill with 25th Hour and Austin Powers in Goldmember. Nothing wrong with that, and it makes up for the weekend where I rented the first movie and never had time to watch it.
Now that we're back into the week proper, we wait. For how long is now anyone's guess. I was allegedly going to know something job-wise today, but with the normal business day at a close, that's apparently not going to happen. Did get a call for freelance work today, but I may have punted it. The tricky bit in that sort of thing, especially in the analytical realm, is having the right tools, and the fit was not terribly good for this one. Not insurmountable, but not good. Other options continue to present, though, which is encouraging.
Big props to former Fire defender Carlos Bocanegra, who started his first match with Fulham of the English Premier League this afternoon. Bit of a rough go for the 24-year old, but not a disaster by any stretch. He'll get better, no question. And the bizarre penalty calls in yesterday's U.S.-Denmark friendly became downright funny, as evidenced by the U.S. bench having a good laugh at the call that allowed them to tie the match. I know that, as a basketball referee, I would be very protective of the foul lane, to the point where I was quick to call three-second violations. That's the impression I got from this referee. Apparently, the holding and pushing that goes on in the penalty area is something of a sore spot for him.
Staying with yesterday's sports action, you have to love Fox talking about the comments made earlier in the season about Eagles QB Donovan McNabb "on ESPN." Slamming Rush Limbaugh on his own wouldn't give you that kind of moral high ground as a network, and yeah, I realize I just used "Fox" and "moral high ground" in close proximity. I would have loved to see McNabb take the Eagles to the Super Bowl as a huge "fuck you" to Limbaugh and Dittoheads everywhere, but alas, it was not meant to be.
