Analysis Paralysis

NP: Outkast, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (CD)

So, what I'm thinking is that because my potential new employer changed the job title and description in apparent reaction to my skills and experience, they have to post it somewhere to prove to the world that this job actually exists, and isn't some kind of collusion or something. If not, then I'm feeling a little spooked about the new listing on Monster.

Still no official word, so I'm forced into this sort of speculation, and the reluctance to go out and do anything significant until I hear some definitive word. I love this part. Really.

After the mild euphoria of Saturday night, the new tune, called "Not This Time," seems to have held up. I still need to finish the lyrics, but I was able to really sing it out loud yesterday (I was writing it late on Saturday, with my roommate and her boyfriend watching videos in the next room), and there are only a couple of melodic kinks to work out. What I like about it is that I was able to successfully crib some ideas from different sources when I started putting words and melody to it. There's a little bit from Paloalto (with the song I just ripped, and ripped it from, being mysteriously absent from my MP3 software) and from Foo Fighters in the chorus, and a definite Bush influence in the verse structure. Which I'm sure Tara will find amusing.

The point being that successful stealing of material from other sources is the first strong sign of finding one's songwriting legs. I've been doing this on drums for years to very good effect. If I can get some work done on it today, and this is good busy work to keep me from just sitting around and waiting for a phone call, I may play it tomorrow night at Vaughan's. I've done original material there before, but not often.

Yesterday's stadium announcement was exciting, at least for a press conference about a somewhat vague plan about building a soccer stadium. The guy who covers the Fire for the Tribune recognized me from my column on the team's website, which is twice now that's happened. I eventually cornered AEG's Tim Leiweke and asked him a little about the concert side of the business, and he confirmed some of my longstanding suspicions. Basically, that it would be foolish for Concerts West to come in to this market on their own. I'll leave it at that for now. Elsewhere, former Fire defender Carlos Bocanegra gets a man of the match vote from the UK press in his second game with Fulham. Well done.
