NP: Radiohead, Hail To The Thief (CD)
It's true what they say about counting your chickens before they're hatched. I was letting myself get maybe a little too optimistic about the latest job prospect, once again succumbing to the notion that I know I would kick butt in the position, so they must. And, to be fair, they still might, because the latest potential wrench in the gears is that they're going the contract route instead of the full-time route, which doesn't really have much to do with me, personally. Now that they know this isn't a dealbreaker, it's back to the waiting game again. Joy.
In the meantime, it's back to active searching. I was giving them about a week of "exclusive rights," in that I didn't want to jump into any situations when I might have to immediately jump out, but that can't go on any longer. There's also another potential spot at the same company, but unfortunately, it's being handled through someone other than my primary contact.
Apparently, it's really cold outside. I may be able to not find out for myself today, although I'll need lunch, and may still go see Gomez tonight, even though the budget for the week is under a little bit of pressure. Fortunately, a few friends subsidized drinks last night at Larry's show, so not as much pressure as it could be. The coin jar only pulled back about thirteen bucks, but that's pretty much all I had to lay out last night. And Larry had no memory of the comments about my hair proferred on Friday night, blaming the whiskey. I didn't bring up what he said about my backbeat, as that probably would have been a bit more embarassing.
After last week's excruciating support acts, I was pleasantly surprised by the other bands at the so-cold-it-may-as-well-have-been-outside Bottom Lounge. First was a really, really young band from Wheaton called The Scarecrow Garden, who sounded a whole heck of a lot like Radiohead, but they're young, and will likely grow past it. And I don't mean any of that in a bad way. Then, Van Allen Belt was just insane. I think they reminded me of Jesus Lizard and The Dillinger Escape Plan, but I need to listen to both of those bands today to see if that assessment is, in fact, accurate.
I'll spare you the political rants today, but that's mostly because I haven't hit the newspapers yet.
