NP: The Who, The Ultimate Collection (CD)
I usually don't post twice in one day, specifically because it fucks with the navigation on the site. I sorta made an allowance for it, but it's half-assed and I'd really have to think about redesign if I were to take the issue seriously. So, instead, it's easier to not post. I thought about amending posts with comments, but that seemed like a particularly inelegant workaround.
So, why this, why now? There's just not much else to do. My roommate tried to encourage my vague notion to go hit the open mike at Moxie, what with my newfound enthusiasm for my "solo" career and brand-spanking new tunes learned from the likes of The Who and The Police. Which is what you get with vast amounts of undirected inaction and a 6-CD changer.
I was trying to come up with valid reasons to not go out, that didn't involve making myself communicatively available, just in case, and while I came up empty, the process told me I just didn't feel like it. I've gotten much better about identifying that as a root cause, because forcing myself to go do something by myself is sometimes a good thing, but also sometimes not.
So, I'm surfing, and looking around for post-mortems on the blogger thing on Saturday night, that I was invited to but didn't participate in. I'm still weirded out by the whole concept of "being" a blogger. Mostly because, as stated at least a half-dozen times since I bought the domain, I haven't the foggiest idea what I'm doing here. I've dabbled in online communities enough to know that this doesn't feel like community service to me.
Begging the question, again, why am I here? Today's trip to Sulzer got me thinking that it might be just to hone my narrative and/or journalistic instincts, just in case. In case what? Hey, I got as far as answering the first part.
Of course, there's that eternal element of "because I can." Because I have at least a hint of an opinion about lots of stuff, and all that random thinking tends to evaporate into nothing if I don't make a note of it. If an opinion is stated in a private forum, does it even make a sound? The webcrawlers have to eat, too, you know.
As if all that weren't enough, now I'm trying to assume some sort of tone that seems to be a direct result of reading other people's blogs and trying to sound...I don't even know. On the one hand, pretentious and quite possibly unoriginal. On the other hand, it's how you extend your boundaries, and if you steal from enough sources, it informs a truer voice of your own. Seeing as how years of playing along to Rush records (pretentious and unoriginal) did more than an okay job of forming my drumming voice, I don't think I necessarily have a problem with it.
Pete Townshend is trying to tell me it's an eminence front, a put-on. He may be right. Eventually, the phone even rang, but it wasn't for me.
