NP: Tom Waits, Mule Variations (MP3)
Looks like I got the bailout shot to end all bailout shots, for the short-to-medium term and maybe beyond. That's right, Coz has a real job again. Or will in a week and a half, anyway.
I'm surprisingly unecstatic about this, probably because it hasn't sunken in just yet, and likely won't until I've cleared the decks to make room for 40 hours of honest work per week. It's not that I feel like I'm capitulating on my bid to actually support myself as a musician -- or as a jack-of-many-trades with music as part of the portfolio -- because it was never really about that. Which isn't to say I was just marking time while the economy got it's shit together, either. It's just been one of several paths that tend to be available to me at any given time. Which, I think, is the whole point.
Besides, the new plan is not much different than the old plan, except that I'll be going to the same place everyday for longer, and won't be singing for my supper, if by supper you mean lunch, two days a week. The musical dance card will be mostly the same, save the Sandwich Music King efforts (and even that may survive in some fashion). The potential for broadcasting is still out there as well. Plus, I'll be making in one week what I'm currently pulling in over the course of a month at the gigs being replaced, which makes this pretty much a no-brainer, doesn't it?
There's no real good six degrees of separation story as to how this came about, either, as it was through my boss at my last job, which I found just as part of a regular old job hunt. Although, if you want to get a bit more tenuous, I saw the ad for that job while randomly killing time before watching an away Fire match at a bar, which probably wouldn't have happened had I not started playing indoor soccer with some coworkers at the job prior to that one and subsequently gotten involved with the Barnburners.
Speaking of which, the billboard should be up this week.
