NP: Various Artists, Nu Afrobeat Experience (MP3)

I guess it's good that I got the job news yesterday. Had it been today, my parents wouldn't have believed me when I called them.

Still, it hasn't quite hit me yet. I think one of the initial hesitations was that good old Catholic guilt, as I felt bad for what I perceived as leaving my part-time employer in the lurch. That's now behind me, and they took it better than I could have possibly imagined. It did drive home the most appropriate metaphor for the situation, though. For the first time in two years, I found myself some consistent income from various sources, and then, all of sudden a full-time gig presents itself. I feel like I just washed my car, and now it's raining. My roommate thinks this may be typical, a result of the good karma from actually doing something positive. Which sounds reasonable, if you believe in that sort of thing.

Yesterday was just good news all around, as the practice space situation resolved itself, and I got my name in the paper. With a picture of the billboard in the print edition. Apparently it's on the inbound Chicago Skyway, near Hammond. Now I need an excuse to go to Indiana, but given this sudden run of good fortune, I'm thinking a return to the Horseshoe may be in order.

Had I been on top of my game, the day could have been even better, but I fumbled an opportunity at the Sandwich Music King gig. At least I think I did, but it may have been nothing. Even without that piece, it felt like a pivot point of sorts, with everything aligning in a new direction that I'm only beginning to figure out. I'm already ruminating on what actually changes between now and then, what with all the crazy shit I've got going on, but that's a post for another day.

Tried to rally for Kick the Cat last night, but I only lasted about three songs before taking off. Just didn't have the attention span for fusion, which requires quite a bit.
