NP: Lakers vs. Spurs (TV)
Today's been one of those sit-tight-and-recover sort of days, aided and abetted by a whole bunch of games on television. Started off with a bit of Leeds versus Bolton from the EPL, with Leeds dropping both the match and their place in the Premiership for next season. Maybe Fulham can pick up Alan Smith in the inevitable fire sale as they cut costs for the First Division.
Then it was MLS Wrap, which was the closest I could get to actually watching last night's Fire match. Which may seem like an odd thing to say, seeing as how I was actually there, but I was driving Section 8 for the entire 90 minutes. This means I had my back to the game quite a bit, although I ended up jury-rigging the drums so I was angled sideways, after getting a slight slap on the wrist from the stadium management guys for resting some gear on the glass. Apparently the glass is very expensive, and between that and the imported Australian seats, I have to question some of the materials costs for the renovation.
The point being, I don't get to see much of the matches I attend all the time. I ordered the DirectKick package to alleviate this problem, but didn't leave the right tape in the VCR, and the instructions left for my roommate apparently weren't explicit enough. I could have sworn I said to make sure the VCR is turned off, but I guess not.
If I had a tape of it, I would have seen a pretty dominant Fire performance, as we continute to pound on the MetroStars at every opportunity. I'm curious to see if our appropriation of OutKast's "Hey Ya" as a Fire cheer could be heard on the broadcast. Every year, I seem to come up with one good idea for the section, and this may be the best yet. I do know that the goalkeeping coach for the visitors noticed it, and had to restrain from tapping his feet along lest he receive a glowering scowl from head coach Bob Bradley. How he's be able to tell the difference from Bradley's normal scowl, I have no idea.
So Metro can't beat the Fire. The Cubbies also continue to struggle with the Cardinals in St. Louis. Note to Kyle Farnsworth: It helps if you, oh, I don't know, throw strikes.
Now it's a bit the NBA playoffs, and I'm happy to see that ABC didn't put Bill Walton on the higher-profile matchup between the Lakers and the Spurs, instead pushing him off onto ESPN for that marquee matchup between the Heat and the Hornets. Speaking of the Hornets, I guess it shouldn't suprise me that Tim Floyd apparently wasn't the problem with the Bulls, either, as he's back in the playoffs now that he's landed somewhere else.
There was some political stuff, but that may wait until tomorrow, or until I figure out a better front page navigation structure for multiple posts in a day. Speaking of, I figured out the problem with viewing the site on my computer at work. If the right nav looks incredibly fucked up in your browser, you need to make your browser window bigger. Or I need to tweak the stylesheet, but you know how I am with site improvements.
