NP: Beulah, When Your Heartstrings Break (MP3)
I don't know how long they'll keep this up on Metromix, since the voting has ended, and I apologize for clicking on the story, but I want to draw your attention to one Ms. Mary Luecke of the "High Carb Honeys." Who gives her neighborhood as the "east side." The east side. Of Chicago.
THERE IS NO EAST SIDE OF CHICAGO, DUMBASS!
It's underwater. I don't think she actually lives underwater, unless this is some euphemism for "drinks like a fish," which would maybe make her eminently qualified for the beer garden gig.
I'm not even touching the entrant whose favorite beer garden is John Barleycorn. That's wrong on too many levels to even contemplate.
Metromix has been having these "reviewer panels" for some time now. I keep seeing references to them as I'm wrangling with the incredibly poor UI design when I'm trying to find show listings for l.i.t.c. I think they give them print space in Red Eye as well, which speaks volumes for the quality of that "newspaper," but that's an old rant. I guess they have to keep overhead (i.e., actual paid writers) down to maintain that 25 cent price point.
If I want the opinion of some random Chicago woman in a beer garden, I'll buy her a drink.
Hello, McFly! (to use a phrase from your own generation),
I hardly think that you, as the host of a pathetic Web site trying build your own 15 minutes of fame, are qualified to evaluate my sense of humor. The bit about living on the "East Side" was part of the joke. Of course I don't live on the East Side just as you are not Abbott. In the great words of Cameron Diaz in There's Something about Mary, "I'm fucking with you Ted!" The only credible thing on your Web site is the page on MLS soccer and as you only write about it and don't even participate in the sport, I can't even give you enough credit to make up for half of your obvious lack of a sense of humor.
Signed,
Who's the DUMBASS now?
P.S. If I wanted the opinion of some random wannabe Web designer I'd...strike that, I wouldn't.
There certainly is an East Side in Chicago. Anything east of State Street is technically east. Large portions of the South Side are east of State Street. Parts of River North/Streeterville have been called The New East Side.
Okay, so "dumbass" may have been over the top. Sorry about that, but hey, controversy sells. Or Googlebaits. If you give me credit for being a soccer fan, I'll give you credit for not being a dumbass. Deal?
(Also, define "participate." Sure, I don't play *on* the Fire, but if you had any idea how involved I am with soccer, you might not say that. Seen any good billboards lately?)
As for the raging "East Side" debate, that's not the east side, that's the Hyatt. I'm not a total Burnham map purist when it comes to neighborhoods, but I lean in that direction.
Still won't catch me dead at Barleycorn.
