NP: Alternative channel (Digital Cable)
Okay, so I finally set up the wireless networking gear I had picked up from the excessively slow clerk at Best Buy last week. Seriously, I did the "buy online and pick up at the store" thing, and it may have been faster had I just have them deliver it to me. Seems to be working fine so far, although Internet speeds here at NotAbbott Central seem a little sluggish at times.
The wireless adapter on the PC end seems to be sapping up even more RAM than will usually leak from this box during normal idle time, but the new router was the step before the network hard drive, which is the step before upgrading to Windows XP, which will ostensibly plug those leaks. That step may involve putting the guts of my machine into a new box with Firewire and USB 2.0 so that can be the step before getting an iPod. RealPlayer is really pissing me off, but I can't dump it yet. The latest bit was search results that said they were "Flagpole Sitta" from Harvey Danger (which I did Tuesday at Vaughan's) but were actually some jazz tunes that I couldn't readily identify, other than the fact they emphatically weren't Harvey Danger.
This is why I'm not going to let RealPlayer rename all the files that have accumulated in my root music directory. And, of course, the fact that the program crashes my machine every time I burn a CD.
Got some politics brewing in my head, but don't know if I'll get to it until the beginning of next week.
Other stuff, too.
