Zero to One-Sixty in Seven Days Or So

NP: Wilco, A Ghost Is Born (CD)

With all the good stuff going on right now, I'm really annoyed that the issue dominating my life right now is the intense pain of a computer upgrade. I picked up the network hard drive and XP upgrade on Saturday. Took me a little while to realize that I had to download the Windows 98 drivers for the NetDisk, as they weren't on the accompanying CD-ROM.

Then my Wi-Fi started causing trouble, crapping out in the middle of every attempt to move the MP3 collection. Of course, transferring 4000 files of not-insignificant size over a connection subject to transient interference may not be the best way to go.

So I'm putting the MP3 move on hold, and trying to focus more on backing up my main drive so I can reinstall programs, or at least check to see what programs I had installed so I can download them again. Except that's not working great either, so far. I've reconnected the plain old Ethernet cable, but I think the wireless connection is still trumping it. When I unplugged that, I got nothing -- maybe a bad CAT-5 cable, maybe not -- so I'm keeping both plugged in for now. No idea whether that's a good idea or not.

Of course, in the middle of this, I tried to get going on list.in.to.chicago, but my domain seemed to be suffering last night as well.

I swear, I like being busy, but this is getting ridiculous. Next weekend, actually, looks like it will be a good time to catch up, with the Fire out of town, among others.
