Big Fall for Big Pharma?

NP: Pink Floyd, A Momentary Lapse of Reason

I woke up this morning to a report of five other FDA-approved drugs that may have serious issues. I've taken one of them, so the El ride this morning was one of more than slight concern.

Turns out the Accutane issue is just with pregnant women, although I know it's been linked to depression and suicide in the past. Here I was hoping to maybe get in on some sort of massive class action suit. Oh, well.

The depression link seems pretty dubious to me, so I don't think anything would come of that in this current stink. If you've got bad acne as a teenager, you're a little more prone to be depressed and suicidal. That should be obvious, shouldn't it?

This is exactly why I have some issues with the overprescription of pharmaceuticals to alleviate symptions rather than trying to treat root causes. Obviously, there are times when the symptoms are severe and require it, but again, I think it's used as a crutch, and it can be a very dangerous crutch when you consider how some of these drugs get rushed to market.
