Machines and How To Rage Against Them

NP: The Kinks, Misfits

It's really odd sometimes to see how and when I lose all patience. A short while ago, I pitched a fit at Osco when the self-service checkout lane couldn't reconcile a half-gallon of milk with it's expected weight. So after two or three tries, I just tossed the items I had already scanned into the basket, left it next to the terminal and left.

Of course, they've got my "preferred" card on file on the transaction, so now I'll have to let my roommate answer the doorbell in case the drug store police come to get me. Or I'll give them valuable data from which they can improve customer service. One or the other.

It wasn't like I was in some kind of dark mood or anything. It just very quickly and very viscerally pissed me off. There was a silver lining, though, which was the new realization that the Jewel and Osco suddenly seem to have gone away from being mostly the same store all the time. Prices were different. Even sale items were different. I find this to be very curious, especially since there are still stores that are nominally both Jewel and Osco at the same time, and I almost have enough time before Vaughan's to go see what cereals one of those stores has on sale and how much a jar of Classico tomato sauce and the aforementioned half-gallon of milk runs.

Almost.

Good god, I need to get interested in politics again. This is even boring me to tears.
