So apparently we're not alone in Chicago in the practice of squatting for parking spots in the snow, but Boston seems to be the only city trying to do something about it. If Daley ever tried anything like this, I think it would do more damage to him politically than the hired truck scandal.
Personally, I can't stand the practice, but as the article suggests, I'm probably in the minority. A better solution, to me, is for people to dig out more than just their cars, so more of the street is clear. If more of the street is clear, then more people can park without having to resort to this sort of territorialism.
Of course, this being early 21st-century America, nobody really gives a shit about anything past their immediate person, so the whole notion of people doing a little more work to benefit everybody will never fly, but a man can dream, right?
