Unlikely Sources

NP: Deftones, White Pony

Interesting (and long) article from Frank Rich in the New York Times arts section today. It's nominally about the upcoming season of 24, but gets profoundly political at times for an arts piece via a seemingly appropriate comparison between the real-time series and former anti-terrorism czar Richard Clarke's upcoming forays in fiction.

The crux is that fiction may be a way to remind us that there is still a very real war on terror going on, as we continue to be distracted by the one that's consuming our attention and our resources faster than Jack Bauer consumed heroin between seasons two and three (sorry, Niki, and that's not really much of a spoiler). I'm not necessarily convinced it will work as Rich thinks it might, but I'm intrigued by the notion of trying to reach people through a different channel than, say, the Sunday news circuit.
