NP: Mercury Rev, The Secret Migration
I know, I'm downright prolific today, but I keep seeing interesting stuff, and I keep wanting to share.
Apparently the problem with Social Security isn't when the trust fund runs out, or when benefits going out of the system overtake money coming into the system. No, apparently the problem is nomenclature.
Josh Marshall has been all over this, and it's truly one of the saddest, most pathetic displays of contortionist-worthy arm-waving I've seen from this administration, and that's saying something. This may even trump "weapons of mass-destruction program-related activities."
you've got to be a little fucked in the head to get worked up over this.
The Clinton administration/Democratic party use polls to determine their POLICIES.
The Bush administration/Republican party use polls to determine their WORD CHOICES
that's one big helluva difference between the two.
Dude, I'm a drummer. That's, like, the textbook definition of "a little fucked in the head," isn't it?
I don't think using public opinion to help shape policy is necessarily such a bad thing. After all, government is about exercising the will of the people, isn't it? I'd much rather that will be communicated via polling than via lobbyists, at the very least.
Clinton -- and don't blame me, I didn't vote for him -- took it to a somewhat absurd extreme, sure, but whether his embrace of everybody's opinions was worse than Bush's abject shunning of any that differ from his own is VERY much open for debate.
shunning idiotarian views IS a good policy.
"Clinton -- and don't blame me, I didn't vote for him -"
Interesting. Given the choices you had in '92 and '96, and given that you still didn't vote for Clinton, maybe your head *has* been invaded carnally...
I had my reasons.
