Dislocation

NP: Judas Priest, The Best of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight

Three different instances of weird displacements in the last couple of days:

  • At Friday night's Diver show, I saw a former co-worker in the bar. I knew I used to work with him, even remembered his name. But being less than a year into the 9-to-5 grind after a long layoff, I couldn't reconcile the fact that he used to work at my current employer. I had convinced myself that I knew him from RollingStone.com, which was odd.
  • Yesterday I got a text message from a UK phone number that simply said "Filter lives." It's not a secret that I know some guys in the band, but to the best of my knowledge, none of them are in England or have British cell phones, and I wouldn't really expect them to be so generically ebullient about the band. A little digging on the new Filter fan message board yielded a possible source. Filter's music was used in a special on the BBC the other night, and I have a friend who now works for the Beeb, and has been encouraging all her Chicago friends to follow.
  • In an effort to be all expedient, efficient and various other adjectives that start with "e," I called Corner Bakery ahead of time so I wouldn't have to wait in line. If you know downtown Chicago, you'll know that there are Corner Bakeries on every other, well, corner. I'm pretty sure every Chicago location is actually on a corner, but don't expect me to investigate. Anyway, long story short, I called the wrong one, but I did at least catch my mistake before I left to pick up my lunch.

I don't count any of these stories as particularly interesting in their own right, but it's a strange little trend of hows, wheres and whens.

You'd be better off with Metal Works instead of the skimpier Best of

Duly noted. I've been digging on Screaming For Vengeance in particular lately, but figured I'd open it up to some more stuff. This is why Rhapsody is totally worth it.
