NP: Wilco, A Ghost Is Born
Today's big cover "story" in Red Eye was how Illinois is third in the nation in adult binge drinking. Seeing as how the "newspaper" practically owes it's very existence to bar and nightclub ads, they take as value-neutral a tack in the article as humanly possible. Elsewhere in the issue, a guide to St. Patrick's Day festivities that includes a heading called "mega-guzzling." The combination of these two must have nearly made the Tribune's editorial board's collective head explode. Because there's generally nothing the Trib likes more than showing off their moral superiority.
Then again, they also like to act like their not entirely responsible for their, pardon the pun, red-headed stepchild. There are no links whatsoever on the front page of the Tribune website over to Red Eye, which is just as well, since the amount of actual online content from the latter "newspaper" is close to nil. The cover story, for example, didn't get a unique URL, and only provided an excerpt. With all the alleged research the Trib did for this piece of crap, they couldn't figure out that this coveted youth demographic, oh, I don't know, kind of likes this Internet thing? The degree to which they don't get it is sometimes staggering.
Meanwhile, the Sun-Times does have a front page link to Red Streak, whose cover story is on bloggers. All we need is a Daily Herald daily for hip twentysomethings that has a cover story on ass-fucking, and it'll be the Wonkette trifecta!
