Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have A Media Narrative

NP: Chris Whitley, Hotel Vast Horizon

On the heels of the L.A. Times piece I mentioned yesterday, E.J. Dionne is getting in on the centrism action in today's Washington Post, and a meme seems to be born.

What I found interesting in Kevin Drum's treatment of the Times column and the ensuing comments is that the left seems to think that this march to the middle is about them. To me, that trivializes the potential schism we're seeing on the right. Sure, there are moderate Democrats that make up part of this movement, but that's barely half the story. To be honest, I think the Dems as a whole may be better served by the swing outward to the MoveOn.org crowd, mostly because they still desperately need a backbone of any sort, but the country may be better served by the center segment left in their, and the Christian Right's, wake.
