Context Is Everything

Apparently cutting retirement benefits isn't so bad as long as it's just for government employees and it means I can get to work in the morning.

The obvious difference between Illinois' pension fund and Bush's Social Security non-plan is that there's a tangible need for the Illinois money to be used elsewhere. CTA's problems are real, and there's a lot of debate over whether or not the same can be said of those of the Social Security Trust Fund. Aside from the fact that private accounts won't actually help the solvency issue, that is.
