Fading Fast

NP: Maroon 5, Songs About Jane

One Grande Mocha Frappuccino and a candy bar later, and I'm still dragging something fierce. This rock and roll thing is going to be the death of me, and not in that cool "blaze of glory" way, either.

It dawns on me that I should amend the "about" page over here to make sure people know I'm not some sort of anti-Abbott Labs crusader or anything. I noticed a couple of people at Cubby Bear last night who seemed to be discussing my bass drum head while The Paramours were on.

Speaking of Cubby Bear, here's a short list of bits we play wrong nearly every time:

  • The turnaround for the double chorus in This Love
  • The bridge of Sing
  • The opening of No Such Thing
  • The last line of God Put A Smile On Your Face
  • The dropouts of the drums in High and Dry

There are probably a couple others as well. Now, to be fair, none of these are insurmountable. It's just a matter of actually addressing them, like we did with the one line from "Talk Tonight" that Anto was one syllable behind on the melody, or something like that. And the break in "Wonderwall," which I've written about previously.

What happens is that, on a gig, one of us will pipe up and say "you know, that's not quite right," and then everybody will forget about it until the next time, when we'll do the exact same thing.
