Out Of The Mainstream

NP: Adrian Belew, Side One

I don't particularly consider myself aligned with the left side of the blogosphere, but I like to think I at least have a notion of how they'll react to things.

Needless to say, I'm fairly confused at the positive spin on Harriet Miers. If anything, I think they've got the whole thing backwards. John Roberts seems like a smart guy, and smart guys tend to want to be smart rather than dogmatic. Miers, on the other hand, just seems unqualified, making her much more likely to do things because her boss told her so. But she's got the extreme right pissed off, so the extreme left is looking at it as a win.

This speaks to the emerging debate over the lefties that was instigated by Senator Barack Obama after the Roberts vote. It looks petulant to me. The point is not just to annoy the other side.

As for Miers, all I've got right now is that Ruth Bader Ginsberg must love the prospect of being "the pretty one."
