Two Points Make A Line. And A Post

NP: CMJ New Music Monthly, Volume 133

As I was penning a couple of entries this week, I think I learned something about what I consider post-worthy over here.

With the Harriet Miers post, just commenting on the Daily Kos piece didn't reach the right threshold, but linking it to the Obama commentary, which also had been languishing on it's own, made it work. Although it might have just been the Ginsberg joke at the end that tipped the scales, I don't know.

And when I saw the U.S. roster for Costa Rica, I thought maybe I'd write something about it, but I didn't run with it until I saw the Daily Herald piece. As an aside, I may have been wrong on that count, as Bruce is apparently planning to bring Justin Mapp in for the final match against Panama, and his omission this weekend had more to do with the Fire still fighting for a playoff berth. Of course, McDill gave no indication of that whatsoever, but I'm already digressing enough.

The point being, one item typically doesn't float my boat unless I can tie it to something else. This goes back to my favorite meaning of "wit," which Merriam-Webster defines as "the ability to relate seemingly disparate things so as to illuminate or amuse."

This doesn't mean singular stories are of no interest, but I have a whole mess of news articles and blog posts that I've filed away for commentary since I figured out del.cio.us and Bloglines that fell short. Mostly because the stories themselves are already out there, and just adding my opinion to them doesn't seem interesting to anybody but me. For the most part, I'm more about seeing things in less obvious contexts than just spouting off opinions, although I still certainly do enough of the latter.
