None More Black

NP: Team Sleep, Team Sleep

I tried to sleep in this morning, but visions of online retailers were dancing in my head, and quite frankly, I don't want that. Seriously. I was thinking about next week at work, where it'll be my job to measure just how much online shopping occured through our conduits on both Black Friday and the unfortunately-named "Cyber Monday."

As for the day itself, I'm not taking a principled stand or anything, but you're not going to find me anywhere near a retail outlet if I can help it, much for the same reason I've mostly abandoned traveling for the holiday. It's not agoraphobia per se, but more that jaded cynicism of not wanting to deal with large unruly crowds if I can help it, and certainly not just to save a couple of bucks.

Yesterday was lazy to the point of decadence, which was what I wanted and what I needed. I communed with my couch and pondered The Meaning of Life. Which is to say, I dug around the On-Demand movies from Comcast and discovered Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

Then there's giving thanks. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out a few things I had no idea we even had to give thanks to until just recently. Like a dating service for intellectual elitists, which helpfully points out that "The Right Stuff requires its members to provide proof of graduate or faculty status before joining." Found that in the back of Wired magazine, which figures. And Lucky 7 Chicago, which bill themselves as "Chicago's Hottest All Female Promotional Team!" The fact that I don't remember where I was handed their card tells me that the correlation between hotness and quality promotion might not be what they make it out to be, but I give them credit for requiring you enter an e-mail address in order to enter their website.

Discerning longtime readers -- yeah, right -- may notice that I've finally created an icon for the site that should show up in your browser's address bar and bookmarks. There's a bona fide logo, too, but that's going to require switching over the color scheme of the site in it's entirety, so it will have to wait until I've got everything pointing at the new style sheet.
