NP: The Darkness, One Way Ticket To Hell...and Back
Side streets in Chicago when there's even a light dusting of snow are no fun at all. Your humble correspondent almost bought it twice this morning, first at the end of my street on my first attempt to, you know, stop. Almost rolled into a bus. Good way to start the day.
Then it was the nasty uncontrolled T-intersection down by the rehearsal space, which this morning featured a mini-van slowly ambling onto Arbour without a care in the world, or at least without, you know, looking first. No stop sign apparently absolved said minivan of that particular responsibility. For the second time in the commute, the ABS kicked in, and I only just barely squeezed between the oncoming vehicle and another parked to my right without losing a side-view mirror.
I've almost crashed at that particular spot once before, with the inherent danger compounded this morning by my not being able to adjust quickly between the relatively skid-free main streets and the inch or so of powder still present off the beaten path. This is what I get for insisting on living outside the mainstream, I guess. Lesson learned.
