NP: Rogue Wave, Descended Like Vultures
So I guess this smoking ban goes into effect later this month. I used to be very "live and let live" about smoking in bars and clubs. I chose to be there with my eyes wide open, even if they tended to get a little teary by the end of the night. If you don't like smoky bars, don't go to smoky bars.
Lately, I've found myself reeking much more of smoke much more often. My drum cases, and subsequently the inside of my car as well. So I'm not going to lie. I'll be happy when the air clears a bit.
What I haven't sat down and figured out, though, is how this will affect the places I tend to go. I know "taverns" aren't included right off the bat. I'm not sure about restaurants. If, say, serving food is the difference between taverns and restaurants -- and assuming restaurants don't have the same two year grace period to invent air-purifying technology, which I think is a wrong-headed assumption -- then, off the top of my head, I'm going to figure (in roughly north to south order) The Globe, yes, Martyrs', yes, Metro, no, Vaughan's, maybe, Elbo Room, no. Vaughan's serves food, but doesn't have a kitchen, so I don't know where they fit. That's also by far the smokiest bar in the regular rotation, so I'd love to see it affected.
Which reminds me, I was going to smoke my one good cigar on New Year's Eve, but forgot.
