NP: Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, Life Begins Again
With a couple of largish projects off my desk for the time being, I decided to get a bunch of other stuff off my desk and went on a bit of a cubicle feng shui kick. A lot of this was motivated by the need to put my docking cable for my phone closer to my PC, because it seemed like either the USB cable or the USB hub I had stretched over to the other side of the desk was fried. But moving my cell phone over to my left puts it right by my speakers, which means I would be constantly barraged with that annoying GSM interference in my headphones everytime the phone shook hands with the network.
So the speakers had to move over to the right. Not that big a deal, although the power cable for my iPod is stretched pretty much as far as it can go. Then I "mounted" the phone onto the desk light that I never use, so I'll likely be able to see calls when they come in, instead of missing them 'cause I'm wearing the aforementioned headphones nearly all day.
Anyway, I finally get all this set up, plug in the phone, and...nothing. Turns out it wasn't the hub at all, but one of the USB ports on the back of my machine that now seems to be the source of the problem. You would think I would have checked that before both buying a new cable and rearranging all this crap.
Oh, well. It's still a better arrangement. Now I need to turn up the ringer volume on my regular phone just a touch so I can hear that over the 'phones, too.
