If It Bleeds, Play Lead

NP: John Cage, 4'33"

I think I've mentioned elsewhere that I end up watching both the national and local news at night when doing my cardio work -- which has proven fruitless to a fault, but that's another post -- at the gym. One really odd thing I've noticed is that Gibson is running advertisements for their guitars during the 6pm local news.

Now, if you didn't know, Gibson makes the Les Paul guitar, which is featured in the ads, and the Les Paul ain't cheap. We're talking about about two grand, give or take.

Maybe you can make a case for hitting up some corporate mid-level manager or VP going through a midlife crisis, but that seems like a stretch. And I can count the number of musicians I know who pay close attention to the local news on no hands. So what, exactly, are these guys thinking?
