Nietzche Would Love This

NP: Led Zeppelin, Box Set

This is rich. According to the New York Times, the House Republican Congressional Committee produced a short film that recasts the battle between the GOP and the Democrats as the epic clash of Star Wars. The article says that the film "portrayed Republicans as the 'Star Wars' heroes being pursued by the evil Democratic empire," and only the inclusion of "empire" in that description of the other side do we know for sure which side the GOP fancies itself.

Seriously, I would have thought they'd be more inclined to use the movie as a cautionary tale of what could happen to them if they're not too careful. Why do you think Bush classifies all those documents, if not to hide the plans for a Death Star?

If you're wondering about the headline, I keep coming back to that passage in Beyond Good and Evil where the German philosopher posits that the concept of "evil" was a semantic hack by the have-nots that made them look better than the haves. When in doubt, change your definitions, and such. I'm not saying I believe that, necessarily, but having completely misunderstood that concept when I had to write a paper on it in college, I tend to keep coming back to it now that it makes sense to me.

Simply going with Orwellian doublespeak on this story would have been way too easy.
