Not My Problem

NP: John Cage, 4'33"

It seems like there's a disproportionate amount of attention and calls for one's civic duty around today's primaries. The latter is actually bothering me, and I'm sure we'll see stories tomorrow that kvetch about whatever paltry turnout there was in Chicago and in Illinois.

This strikes me as patently unfair to those of us who would rather not meddle in the business of either party. I voted in a Democratic primary once, and I swear, I felt dirty afterwards. I felt like I was trespassing. Voter turnout for the two parties will end up being an interesting bellweather for those of us camped out in the middle more than it will be some sort of scathing indictment of voter apathy. Hopefully the reporting will reflect that, but I'm not optimistic.
