NP: Miles Davis, The Complete Recordings 1965-1968
I've been trying to avoid any "fuck, it's hot" posts, because it doesn't really add much to the conversation. But last night, my bed was warm to the touch when I tried to go to sleep at 11:30pm or so. Not fun.
The week began with a fruitless search for temporary blackout blinds, because what became immediately apparent was that the sun was heating my apartment more than my air conditioning could cool it down. So blocking the sun became job number one -- where's Mister Burns when you need him?
After identifying just what I needed, and ascertaining that, under normal circumstances, Home Depot carries said item, I figured I'd call and check that they had these things in stock. The one store I called didn't, but the clerk assured me that two other stores in the city did. What he neglected to tell me is that Home Depot's computer inventory system is completely worthless. I've since found that this is pretty much common knowledge to anyone who has had extensive dealings with the store. We won't get into how far I walked in the heat and in blister-inducing footwear to get there.
Plan B involved going to an art supply store and buying rolls of heavy-ish paper, which were then affixed to window frames through various means. It's sufficiently dark in the mornings, but the subsequent problem was that the warm air already in the apartment apparently had no intention of cooling down, at least not past the dining room. I absolutely need a second window unit in the bedroom to make the apartment inhabitable in the event we get this hot again at some point.
And, according to Al Gore, we will
Now that the thunderstorms have broken up the heat wave, I need to stay focused and either install curtains, order the blackout shades online, or maybe try this static cling privacy film. And get that other AC unit.
On the plus side, my rock and roll lifestyle has me used to getting too little sleep on a fairly regular basis, if that can be considered an upside.
