Crisis Averted

NP: John Cage, 4'33"

Okay, I can exhale now. The danger seems to have passed. Once I got the machine looking at the CD-ROM at bootup, I was able to run chkdsk and that seems to have fixed whatever was wrong. The big box is backing up as we speak, apparently none the worse for wear, although I suspect it may have tossed its cookies, so to speak, in the process, and maybe forgotten all the saved passwords as well, which could make life somewhat interesting.
