Parsing (Would Be) Presidential Language

NP: John Cage, 4'33"

The news -- at least one local news teaser last night and a newspaper column today, if the headline was accurate -- is saying that Barack Obama ruled out being a vice presidential candidate on last night's Late Show with David Letterman. I actually watched Letterman for the first time in probably ten years last night, and I thought all he said was that he's "in it to win it." Which doesn't strike me as ruling anything out. Maybe I missed something.

Of course, they did spend a lot of the first part of the interview talking about ridding yourself of vices -- in Obama's case, smoking -- so maybe it was in code.
