NP: Juventus v. Livorno
Okay, so my home desktop PC has been alarmingly unstable lately. It would just get stuck and I would need to reboot, and I had no idea why. At first it seemed to happen most often with iTunes and Picasa, so I uninstalled and reinstalled those programs repeatedly, to no avail.
I finally noticed that my CPU usage was really high when there was very little going on, so I hunted down a process called "res.exe" -- installed as part of a USB Toolbox program that I don't know why I have in the first place -- and removed the program and the files. My hunch is that this, in fact, the culprit, as the web has many instances of this file wreaking havoc.
I have a theory that my mood is affected by my PC uptime, as stupid as that sounds, but I can be severely affected by things going wrong where I feel completely helpless, and PC trouble certainly qualifies. So hopefully this fixes current issues both within the computer and in front of it.
