Beyond Good And Evil Lie Numbers

NP: John Cage, 4'33" (extended dance mix)

In relating measures of religion versus income by state, I think Kevin Drum and Andrew Gelman have essentially written that freshman year humanities paper I screwed up so thoroughly with one simple chart.

Which is to say, in Beyond Good and Evil, Friedrich Nietzche argues that the words "good" and "bad" used to mean, essentially, "rich" and "poor," until the poor people decided to take the high moral ground by inventing this notion of "evil" so that they could see themselves as superior to the rich.

One of these days I'm going to dig up the paper I wrote on that, because I missed the point completely. It wasn't until I re-read the book over that summer -- yes, I read Nietzche for fun -- that I got it.
